## Tips for Teachers

?

• “Students…combine competencies from different domains as they solve measurement problems using all four arithmetic operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division” (MD Progression, p. 20). Thus, students will solve word problems involving money recorded as decimal quantities in Lesson 14, connecting the supporting work of measurement problems (4.MD.2) across domains to the major work with decimals (4.NF.C) as well as the major work of solving word problems using the four operations (4.OA.3).
• Let students work on each problem in the Problem Set independently, and circulate to see whether students are solving correctly. If not, come back together to discuss how/what to draw on a tape diagram, then allow them to try again on their own. Encourage students to use a strategy of their choice to assess the reasonableness of their solution.
