This chapter is the first introduction to the Black Panthers. Delphine tries to make sense of what she is hearing based on discussions she’s had with Big Ma, but she doesn’t fully understand. In upcoming lessons students will have a chance to build a deeper understanding of the Black Panthers and what they overhear in this chapter. Therefore, the focus of this chapter is beginning to make predictions about the Black Panthers based on the information they overhear in the chapter.
