Lesson Guidance

Standard and Literary Concepts

  • A book review contains a description of the book and also the writer’s assessment of the quality/importance of the text. Writers usually support this point of view with specific examples from the text.
  • It is usually relatively clear what a writer’s point of view is of the text they are writing; however, there are plenty of book reviews that provide both positive and critical feedback about the text (just not any in today’s reading!).

Notes

  • There is a ton of vocabulary in this article that is essential for students to understand the author’s point of view. Consider downloading the article and providing the article with footnotes and perhaps bold a few words to teach more explicitly.
