  • Why did Joey steal the pie? What effect does it have on him? What descriptive language does the author include to show how the pie affected him?

  • Why does Mrs. Maxy say, "It's just that there is always a difference between what you think you are doing and what happens to you and everyone else" (p. 66)?

  • On page 66, Joey says, "And everyone else, teachers and parents and Amish, were all looking at me as if they were at the zoo and I was something in a cage." How does this make Joey feel? Why?
