Target Task


Create a yearbook page for one of the main characters from the Pinky and Rex series to demonstrate your understanding of character traits and relationships between characters.



This project allows students to demonstrate their understanding of the unit texts as well as their ability to engage with the unit essential skill of tracking character change through the visual-spatial, intrapersonal, and verbal-linguistic intelligences.

Project Overview


  1. Turn and Talk: Who is your favorite character from the Pinky and Rex series? Why?
  2. Explain to students that today they will be thinking alot about their favorite character because they are going to make a yearbook page for their character. (Teachers: you may want to create a "yearbook page" template for students to fill in.)
  3. Have students choose either Pinky or Rex to focus on. Model how to fill out the yearbook page using Amanda as the example. Particularly focus on writing comments from friends (Note: comments should span each of the unit texts.)
  4. Set students to work. Float to support.
  5. Have students leave their yearbook pages on their desks and do a gallery walk to view other students' work.
  6. Class Discussion:
    1. How do Pinky and Rex change over the series?
    2. What can we learn from Pinky and Rex about friendship?
