  • Why would Giles Corey mention that he has 600 acres?
  • What does Corey confess at the bottom of p. 80? Does it help or hurt him?
  • What is Francis Nurse’s motive for coming to court?
  • What does Francis tell the judge?
  • Why is Hale excited at the bottom of p. 81?

The Crucible (pp. 82–92):

  • How is Mary Warren feeling and acting on p. 82? 
  • What reason does Proctor give for plowing on Sundays?
  • What news does John Proctor get on p. 85? Does this change Proctor’s mind or intent?
  • What does Proctor present to Danforth and why?
  • Danforth says, “a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between.” What does he mean here? 
  • Explain Mary Warren’s emotions on p. 87. What may have caused this?
