Notes


  • The teacher may wish to begin class with the clip of Mercutio’s death from the film Romeo and Juliet. Ask students to recall why Mercutio died. (as a result of the corruption of two selfish families; he was just a victim
  • The teacher may then wish to leave it to students on their own to read the chapter and draw the connection between Holden and Mercutio. 
  • It is recommended that students read independently and answer questions on their own during today’s lesson. Doing so can provide teachers with an accurate assessment of students’ analysis and skills going into the final three weeks of the unit. The teacher may wish to turn some of the key questions into additional multiple-choice questions or require students to answer them all in writing. Potentially, a teacher can use 2 days to complete this.
